Our brain is becoming more understood each year. Research studies are focused on the impact that happiness and positivity are playing, not only on our thoughts, but how those thoughts are transformed into performance. A happy brain is a more productive and creative brain. (See blog written about Shawn Achor and the Happiness Advantage.)
Is this something that we can control? Yes, of course it is! And we know that happiness is also contagious. You know how it feels to be around people who are happy versus those who are not. When we are happy, it is scientifically proven that we get more done.
We also know that the older we get, the harder it is to be “spontaneous.” Recently a poll was conducted to see how people feel about spontaneity in their lives.
Only about 13% of people surveyed said that they do something spontaneous at least once a week. 48% said they never do anything spontaneously. Never. Work, kids and their schedule, etc. etc. get in the way.
What to do about this? Get yourself out of the rut and do something different today. Drive to work using a different route. Notice the scenery around you. Call someone you haven’t talked to in a long while. Just for fun.
Give yourself that JOLT and see what happens to your attitude.
